Can a costume tell a story before a word of dialogue is spoken? Female Archetypes, presented in partnership with the Adelaide Festival Centre Performing Arts Collection, explores the impact costumes can have on an audience’s understanding of character.

This display, an extension of the exhibition at the Adelaide Festival Centre, will showcase costumes from opera, theatre, dance and musical theatre worn by six iconic female characters of the stage, including Maria from The Sound of Music and the incomparable Sally Bowles from Cabaret. A complementary History Hub display Adelaide On The Town showcases objects and photographs from the Civic Collection and the Historic Picture Collection depicting moments of celebration and enjoyment of the city.
