Bat Camp!

9 and 10 October 2019

Santos Conservation Centre, Adelaide Zoo

Bat camp event

Marvel at one of Adelaide’s most conspicuous animals, the Grey-headed Flying-fox. These Spring school holidays, local bat experts will delight your kids (ages 5-12) with hands-on creative activities that will highlight the miraculous story of this marvellous mammal.

Activities will include visiting the bats at their roost, kite-making, drawing, painting, peering through microscopes in the Bat Cave and even a demonstration with live animals by the Adelaide Zoo!

Join us for either a morning or afternoon session on Wednesday 9 October or Thursday 10 October. Please stay with your child(ren) for the duration of the event, approximately 2.5 hours.

Santos Conservation Centre is adjacent the Adelaide Zoo entrance in Botanic Park. Meet us at the registration desk on the grass behind the Santos Conservation Centre. Look for our white geodesic dome, otherwise known as the Bat Cave!

Project partners include the City of Adelaide, SA Health, South Australian Museum, University of Adelaide, Adelaide Zoo, Department for Environment and Water and Fauna Rescue SA.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Please consider your options for catching public transport. The area is easily accessed on foot or by bicycle. Parking may be available on War Memorial Drive, along Frome Road near the Zoo or on Victoria Drive.

Keep in mind that these events will be held on weekdays near the Zoo in the public holidays and on-street parking is likely to be limited.

What can I bring into the event?

Bring a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather (hat, jumper, rain jacket), as some of the activities will take place outside. You may want to bring snacks or lunch with you to enjoy before or after your session.

Limited fruit will be available at the event. More food options can be purchased from Wisteria Restaurant at the Adelaide Zoo.
