Elements and Being

Akio Makigawa

Elements and Being draws on influences from nature, time, humanity and culture being drawn together in a focal point. This artwork is overlayed with many symbols. The symbolic black Maquino marble and white Carrara marble acting as a reference to day and night on bluestone that historically references Adelaide's early building material. The strata patterns in the work reference the earth, and each of the 5 elements representing the points of the Southern Cross. The artwork is located in the upper forecourt.
