14 Pieces

Hossein Valamanesh and Angela Valamanesh

The inspiration for the 14 Pieces artwork was the opalised vertebral column of an Ichthyosaur, that is part of the South Australian Museum collection. This extinct marine reptile was found in the former inland sea which covered the interior of Australia more than 100 million years ago.

The artwork refers to the notions of excavation, reconstruction and conservation.

This work was commissioned by City of Adelaide, with contributions from The Government of South Australia and SA Water.

The water feature stands in place of the original fountain donated by the Bonython Family in memory of Sir John Lavington Bonython (1875-1960).
