Angas Hotel, 78 Angas Street, 1966

The Angas Hotel, north-east corner of Angas Street and Chancery Lane. Established in 1860 as the Sussex Hotel and also known as the Old Colonist from 1864 to 1951, it was delicensed in 1986. The building survives and is used for offices. A popular venue for live music in the late 1970s and 1980s.

"POLICE ALLEGE HOTEL BETTING
James Reilly, 42, painter, of Mornington road, Unley, was remanded on bail until August 9 by Mr. Clarke, PM, in Adelaide Police Court today, on two alleged breaches of the Lottery and Gaming Act. It was alleged Reilly, on Saturday, unlawfully carried on business as a bookmaker and was in the Old Colonist Hotel bar, Angas street, City, for unlawful betting. Mr. K. V. McEntee appeared for Reilly.
