The Hampshire Hotel was established in 1856, and was possibly known as the Coach House Tavern at that time (Hoad, p218). The hotel was rebuilt in 1911. Continued to trade until the 2000s when it traded intermittently. As of 2018 it is a restaurant.

'Winifred Gillen and Florence Ann Strang, joint licensees of the Hampshire Hotel, Grote street, City, pleaded guilty in the Adelaide Police Court today to a charge of having unlawfully supplied liquor at 6.6 p.m. on May 5. They were each fined £5, reduced to £2/10/ with 8/9 costs, by Mr. Ziesing, S.M. For having unlawfully obtained liquor from the hotel at 6.6 p.m. on May 5, Abraham Eddy, painter, and his wife, Rita Eddy, of Andrew street, Adelaide, also pleaded guilty A similar charge against Hilda Belinda, Dorothy Quinn, laundress, of Chatham street, City, was heard ex parte.
Eddy, who admitted three previous convictions for a similar offence, was fined £10 with 10/ costs. Mrs. Eddy and Miss Quinn were each fined £2, reduced from £5, with 10/ costs. Mr. L. T. Gun appeared for the licensees, and for Mr. and Mrs. Eddy.'
