Established in 1846 on the north-east corner of Hindley Street and Bank Street. Rebuilt in 1905 and ceased trading in 1978. This 1905 building still exists, although as a fast food restaurant. This photograph was taken looking north along Bank Street.

'Hotel Residents Had No Radio Licences
Five people residing at city hotels were each fined £ 1 with 101 costs by Mr. Clarke, S.M. in the Adelaide Police Court today for having failed to have wireless licences. They were Albert Zions, of Eagle, Hotel Hindley street; Jean Brook of the South Australian Hotel, North terrace; and Dorothy Wilson, Albert Edward Swallwel and Horace Maple, all of the Newmarket Hotel, North terrace.'
