The Joiners' Arms was previously adjacent to this site from 1839-1847 when the Castle Inn was built. The design of the building in this photograph dates from 1953. It was demolished in 1966. The hotel in 1878: The hotel in 1938 can be seen here: "AN EXPENSIVE PINT Discovered in the bar of the Castle Inn, Hindley street, on Sunday after noon, after having consumed a pint of beer, Albert S. Murphy, admitted his offence to two plainclothes constables. In the Adelaide Police Court on Monday morning he pleaded guilty to a charge of having unlawfully obtained liquor, and was fined £5 by Mr. L. H. Haslam, S.M."
