Buck's Head Hotel, North Terrace, Adelaide, 1965

Established, on the south-west corner of North Terrace and Gray Street, as the Dolphin Inn in 1848 on the the site where the Nelson's Head Inn had previously stood. Became the Buck's Head in 1849 and was demolished in 1965. Mervyn and Elaine Dodd we the last licensees. According to a researcher, in the 1950's publican Ern Fahey registered the first hotel smorgasbord from there. It is reported that the Buck's Head also had one of the first hotel dance floors in South Australia.

'£300 Fare Vanishes
A man who hired a taxi in Kalgoorlie on Saturday night for a return trip to Adelaide, vanished in the city yesterday after telling the driver, Thomas Radisich, that he was going into a bank to draw £300 to pay for the 1,350-mile trip, Radisich is stranded in Adelaide with only a few shillings and a damaged cab following a collision with a kangaroo. An old schoolmate, Mr. Jack Pleass, proprietor of the Buck's Head Hotel, whom Radisich met accidentally, in a city street, has offered him accommodation until he returns to the West.'
