Bonython Park is part of Tulya Wardli (Park 27). The Kaurna name Tulya Wardli means Police Barracks.

The River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari has great spiritual significance to the Kaurna people. The former Aboriginal “location” where huts and a schoolhouse were built in 1838 was also in this Park.

As well as the information shown on the map above, this Park is the site of the:

• Former Slaughterhouse and cattle yards (dating from the 1840s)

• Historic olive grove plantings

• Former Rubbish dump

The Park was redeveloped in 1958 by WCD Veale, Town Clerk (1947-1965), following an international study tour.

City of Adelaide acknowledges the traditional Country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and pays respect to Elders past and present. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land. We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today. We also extend that respect to other Aboriginal Language Groups and other First Nations.
