Whatever it is, we invite you to share it with us through the lens of a camera.

This photo competition invites all emerging photographers to visually explore the theme, Adelaide. Designed for Life. A selection of the submissions will be showcased on City of Adelaide’s digital and print channels.

Adelaide is a city shaped by stories, and in turn, our stories shape the city.

Use your imagination to capture an image that expresses how Adelaide is a city designed for your life through your camera or smartphone.

What’s in it for you?

This is a platform for you to show off your talent, and be rewarded for it with prizes perfect for the budding photographer. Any of the images shared by the City of Adelaide will credit you as the photographer, giving you valuable exposure.

Category and prizes

There are 2 categories for entries:

  1. Under 18
    • 1 x grand winner
      • $1,000 voucher from Camera House at the Adelaide Central Market
    • 2 x runner-ups
      • $250 voucher each from Camera House at the Adelaide Central Market
  2. 18 and above
    • 1 x grand winner
      • $1,000 voucher from Camera House at the Adelaide Central Market
    • 2 x runner-ups
      • $250 voucher each from Camera House at the Adelaide Central Market

All vouchers are subjected to Camera House's gift cards terms and conditions of use.

The nitty gritty

  1. We encourage all participants to read and familiarise themselves with the conditions of entry prior to entry.
  2. There are two (2) categories of entries, and a total of two (2) grand prizes and four (4) runner-up prizes.
  3. Multiple entries are accepted. Please submit a new entry for every submission.
  4. Entrants to the Under 18 category are to be under 18 years of age as at 1 April 2019.
  5. All photos submitted must be taken within the City of Adelaide boundary (postcode 5000 or 5006).

The competition opens on Wednesday 22 May 2019 and last entries will be received on Sunday 21 July 2019, 5:00 pm (ACST).

  • Entries are open to emerging photographers residing in Australia.
  • Entries for the 2019 competition will close at 5:00 pm (Australian Central Standard Time) Sunday 21 July 2019.
  • Photos should interpret Adelaide. Designed for Life. in some form.
  • Photos must be the own work of the photographer who enters the competition.
  • There are two categories in the competition - Under 18, and 18 and over.
  • Entries from persons under 18 must have signed parent/guardian consent.
  • It is the responsibility of entrants to obtain the permission and contact details of the persons/subjects in the photograph and submit this to the City of Adelaide upon request. This is a sample talent consent form that you can use.
  • Entry is free.
  • Multiple entries will be accepted.
  • Photographs must have been taken in the last year.
  • Photos should be entered that are not ‘collages’ or rely on heavy use of image manipulation (e.g. photoshop) or overlay.
  • Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted if they do not constitute copyright infringement or fraud. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person's art.
  • Judges decisions will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Electronic copies only will be received; they should be at least 100 DPI (dots per inch), a minimum file size of 2MB, and JPEGs and/or TIFF formats.
  • Entries should be submitted via the website form. File names for the photos should contain the entrants’ name.
  • Each photograph should have a title and a short comment (no longer than 80 words) about it.
  • Copyright and intellectual property of the images remains with the photographer.
  • By participating the entrant grants a perpetual and irrevocable licence to the City of Adelaide to copy and publish their submission (including any photograph or text) or part of it for any purpose relating to the City of Adelaide. The City of Adelaide may publish your work on its websites, social media sites or in print or digital publication.
  • Photographs will be credited wherever the images are used.
  • Judging will be based on creativity, style and authenticity of both visual and written submission. Judges will look for original, thought-provoking photography that exudes the competition theme in an honest and genuine way.
  • Judges panel will comprise of City of Adelaide employees and partners, and selected members from the South Australian art industry.
  • The City of Adelaide will not be responsible for any claims associated with the prizes and these will need to be brought to the attention of the supplier.
  • The City of Adelaide will not be responsible for any injury, loss, or damage caused by or in connection with this competition and the participant will hold the City of Adelaide fully harmless. Submitting the entry form constitutes acceptance of these conditions.
