Coffee spots in Adelaide

“To me, the smell of fresh-made coffee is one of the greatest inventions”
Hugh Jackman

If you’re looking for a kick-start to the day, or a boost to keep you going, you won’t have to look far to find a coffee fix in Adelaide. Many cafes source and blend their beans exclusively, then roast and grind them in-house to ensure maximum freshness and taste.

Cibo Espresso

“Cibo” means ‘food’ in Italian but has come to mean ‘coffee’ in Adelaide.

Cibo Espresso was founded in Adelaide by four gents who wanted to bring the Italian café experience to life here. And it sure came to life! From humble beginnings in Rundle Street in 2000, they now have 11 locations across the city centre and North Adelaide, another 19 throughout South Australia and are expanding interstate.

Penny University

Penny University won the publicly voted City Awards for the Best Coffee Spot 2018. Located in lively Union Street in Adelaide’s East End, it’s also the perfect place for a hearty breakfast or tasty lunch.

My Kingdom for a Horse

Funny name, but fabulous coffee! My Kingdom for a Horse in Wright Street is a licenced café with an on-site roastery, ensuring your coffee is fresh, and you can take home a bag of the beans if you like the blend. It’s no wonder they’ve won the Savour Australia- Best Café Dining Adelaide for the past two years!

UR Caffe

If you’re in North Adelaide and after consistently good coffee, you can’t go past UR Caffe in Melbourne Street. They offer both hot and cold coffee, but if you’re feeling adventurous, try one of their Caffe Creations.

Bici Espresso

Situated on leafy Hutt Street, Bici Espresso is the perfect pitstop for a caffeinated pick-me-up. Bici Espresso has amassed a loyal following using Manfredi beans. The boutique coffee house boast three blends which are the result of a collaboration between celebrated chef Stefano Manfredi and master roaster Wayne Archer. A favourite among cyclists, roll up on two wheels and find a spot out the front to lap up some sunshine.

Coffee Branch

Coffee Branch is somewhat of an institution with Adelaide’s city workers who zombie walk up from the train station in the morning and transform into functioning humans after their Coffee Branch fix. The place is small, but it’s big on flavour!

Food Lore

Located inside the future-focused MOD. Museum on North Terrace, the coffee at Food Lore is out of this world! Combining Kangarilla’s Dawn Patrol coffee, which is 100% sustainable and traceable, with the best local Fleurieu milk, you’ll appreciate the smooth flavour. Even the coffee cups are made from coffee bean husks which keep your coffee warmer longer.

When you’ve been listed by Beanhunter as Top Café in Adelaide four years in a row, you know they’re good. From cold-drip to hot-brew Coffylosphy in Hutt Street has a drink for you.
