City halal eats for Eid al-Fitr
With several days left in Ramadan, the countdown is on to the Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr. It is during this period that many families and community groups observing Ramadan start preparing for Eid al-Fitr.
Eid al-Fitr, translated to Festival of Charity, marks the end of Ramadan, and is celebrated by anyone of Muslim faith around the world. This special time is celebrated with early rising to greet family, prayers, getting ready with new clothes, ensuring zakat is paid, and paying respects to family members and friends. Among these practices, are grand celebrations with lots of food shared with family and friends.
In spirit of this festive season, we’ve put together a list of restaurants serving up halal, delicious, and affordable dishes to be shared during this wonderful festival.
Warong Rundle
One of the city’s favourite eateries, Warong Rundle has been satiating hunger with their tasty Malaysian-Indonesian street food for a long time. In conjunction with Eid Al-Fitr this year, Warong Rundle is offering their Eid Mubarak* menu - where they will be offering a 20% discount off eight of their signature items. *Eid Mubarak is an Arabic term that means “Blessed feast or festival” and is a commonly used traditional Muslim greeting reserved for the holy festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Hut & Soul
Hut & Soul is the city's first premier Indonesian restaurant since 1998 Over the years, its repertoire expanded to include Malaysian Cuisine offering an inexpensive peek into the magical flavours of South East Asian cuisine.
Hut & Soul is currently open for takeaway and outdoor dining for up to 10 people with their full menu. This includes Malaysian street food that is normally only available during lunch hours - like the Best Laksa in Adelaide by The Advertiser and $10 Hainanese Chicken Rice promotion. They are also offering 10% off for all pick-up takeaways.
From 8 June, the restaurant will open for indoor dining, with up to a maximum 20 customers in accordance to South Australian government’s rules on social distancing.
Le Souk
Le Souk is one of the few Halal eateries in Chinatown within the Market District, and is well-known for its delicious and healthy Algerian dishes. Keeping to State government's regulations, Le Souk continues to serve during this period. You are able to ring to arrange for pick-up takeaways, or order in-person when you’re at the Adelaide Central Market. If you’re looking to whip up an Algerian dish yourself, Le Souk also offers a range of unique spice blends, condiments, along with cooking ingredients related to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines.
