City Christmas lights & decorations
Across the city, sparkling lights, colourful decorations and the arrival of all of your favourite festive characters will sprinkle seasonal joy wherever you wander.
Sparkling lights and giant Christmas tree
Everyone's favourite Christmas fixture is the giant Christmas tree in Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga. The tree will appear in time for the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant but won't light up until the following week.
The star of the Christmas calendar is Lighting of the Christmas Tree, a magical evening taking place on Saturday November 16. Join the City of Adelaide for an evening of free entertainment and to flick the big switch and turn on the dazzling lights of the tree for the first time in 2019.
In celebration of the traditional meaning of Christmas, a Nativity Scene will be installed at the base of the tree.
A few steps from the square you can watch the Adelaide Town Hall light up as the sun goes down. The gorgeous facade of this heritage building is bathed each evening in a merry glow and the balcony dressed for the season with colourful baubles and garlands strung with fairy lights.
Santa's sleigh
Catch the life-size display of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa’s Sleigh made out of LEGO® bricks at the Christmas Lights, Festive Nights event from December 13 to 22 in Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga. You’ll be able to take a photo in the sleigh, visit a food truck, enjoy live entertainment and on select nights shop at Christmas Markets and watch outdoor Merry Movies.
Dressed For success
Leading the charge in the city shopfront showcasing is the Rundle Mall Christmas windows. A team of collaborators will craft windows – each a tribute to how Christmas is celebrated in South Australia. The City of Adelaide has also worked with local retailers to help them create eye-catching frontages with a professional visual merchandiser.
