How Adelaide can entertain you from home

Last updated 13 Sept, 2021

Whether you're working from home or just spending a lot of time indoors, Adelaide locals are offering a lot of entertainment. Your day can be brightened by streaming silly monkeys or a customised book delivery. Take your pick from this huge list of ideas.

Support a local

Now more than ever it's important to support our local businesses.

'Still Here' is a fantastic community directory you can use to search local shops, eateries and businesses in your post code who are keeping their doors open or offering delivery during this time. The directory is free for businesses to register.

Keep the kids entertained

With everyone spending a lot more time at home, Play & Go have pulled together a jam-packed guide of fun and simple home-based activities that will keep the kids (and parents!) happy. Think indoor camping, hallway mini golf and nature play ideas for the backyard. They've also shared a Play and Stay at Home guide for the school holidays and beyond.

For other fun and educational activities, Patch Theatre have released an online activity page with projects to try at home such as paper crafts, shadow drawing and story time.

Top up your reading stack

As the weather gets cooler, it's a great opportunity to curl up with a book or two.

The much-loved Imprints Booksellers on Hindley Street are offering free postage across SA for all orders of $50, plus home delivery to selected suburbs. The team at Dymocks are on hand for phone orders, and can run your new books out to your car in Twin Street or Hindmarsh Square.

Not sure what to read next? Grab some Literary Takeaway from Adelaide's Pop-up Bookshop! All you have to do is email the team a few key details, and they will personalise a selection of books for you to choose from before the final selection is delivered to your door.

Bring the zoo to your living room

Wondering what our friends at Adelaide Zoo and Monarto are getting up to? Pop by the live 24/7 webcams to spot the chimps exploring their play area, Ibutho the white rhino sunning himself, or our Giant Pandas, Wang Wang and Fu Ni. The Zoos SA team are also hosting live keeper talks and Q&A sessions on Instagram.

Try your hand at a DIY kit

Keen to learn a new skill? Studio Vino have taken their painting classes online with video tutorials and paint-at-home kits, or you can set up a ‘crafternoon’ with your friends via video chat to master one of these DIY projects.

Foodies can grab a delicious pizza kit from Pizza e Mozzarella Bar, or whip up Sunday brunch with a breakfast pack from Con’s Fine Foods in the Adelaide Central Market.

Get streaming

While you might not be able to attend your favourite places or events at the moment, there's plenty of amazing experiences being rolled out online!

Look out for each other

Remember, we're all in this together. During this time of big changes it's important to take care of yourself and others in the small ways we can.
