A footy-lover's guide to iconic North Adelaide pubs

We are truly in the throes of footy fever. North Adelaide is brimming with heritage pubs where you’re so close you can hear the roars from the Oval! We’ve covered where to head before, during or after the game.

Queen's Head Hotel

117 Kermode Street, North Adelaide SA 5006

You know a pub is doing something well when its the oldest licensed venue in an original building in the State. Established in 1838, the Pub has maintained its cosy, welcoming vibe with a few sleek updates over the years. Come game day, show your Adelaide Oval pass for a $15 Margherita or pepperoni pizza and wash it down with their rotating monthly beer specials. If you’re lucky, you’ll score an elusive seat in front of the fireplace.

The Archer Hotel

60 O'Connell Street, North Adelaide SA 5006

The rumours are true. The Archer is back! Established in 1882, the iconic heritage pub has lived a colourful life including stints as a library, bank and radio station. It reopened its doors recently with a few sleek updates. There are 17 beers on tap for your drinking pleasure and plenty of space for you to pop your feet up. On match day, you can enjoy unlimited house brews or wine from siren to siren for only $30 and pizza slices for $1.

Cathedral Hotel

45 Kermode Street, North Adelaide SA 5006

Literally 400m from the Oval, you could almost perch on the balcony and get a glimpse of the action live. The Cathedral Hotel know a thing or two about beer, taking out the Draught Beer Quality Award at the Australian Hotels Association SA Awards for Excellence. The spacious spot, established in 1860, is divided into distinct areas to suit any mood! Grab two pizzas for $35 or pint of Cooper’s and burger for $22 and pick your possie in the dining room, one of two separate bars or the outdoor area.

British Hotel

58 Finniss Street, North Adelaide SA 5006

Self-proclaimed as the cosiest pub in Adelaide, the British have three log fires to back it up. The sprawling Pub has a little something for everyone. Nestle into one of the oversized armchairs, sit street-side if you’re keen to catch some rays, play some pool in the front-bar or grab a seat at the bar and have a chinwag with the staff. Enjoy something from the modern-Australian menu which shows off the best of local produce and wash it down with something from the extensive wine list.
